The Essential Skills Workshops are running on Tuesdays / Wednesdays / Thursdays over the next 5-6 weeks and will start at noon or 1 pm. The last day these workshops will be offered is March 30, 2023. Please see the Admission form above under the "Register Here" button for the specific dates and indicate what options would work best for your schedule.

Teamwork and Collaboration

This course will focus on the development of the essential skill: “working with others”. There will be practical exercises planned throughout the session that will mimic experiences in the workplace setting. We will explore communication styles, professionalism, working with defensive team members and conflict resolution.

Breaking through Barriers and Speaking Up at Work

Participants enhance and practice ability for effective speaking and listening during work interactions.

Time Management

This course delves into strategic management techniques of productivity, projects and people. Areas of focus include inclusive leadership styles at all levels in the new world of work, providing feedback, leading change, people and projects virtually. In this course, attendees will receive action-oriented insights and have exposure to best practices.

Presentations with Impact

Participants discuss key elements of effective presentations, prepare materials, then create a video recording of themselves presenting, to be viewed by the group.

Critical Thinking

This course will focus on the development of the essential skill, “thinking” in a practical learning environment that will mimic the workplace setting. Using Bloom’s Taxonomy of Critical Thinking Skills, participants will become versed in understanding, analyzing, applying, and evaluating complex scenarios, opposing perspectives and data sources to create reports, pathways and solutions.

Emotional Intelligence

Participants discuss and practice emotional intelligence value and subskills.

Presentation Skills

This course will focus on developing interpersonal and communication skills as well as professional workplace behaviours. It will cover the 4 C’s of communication (clarity, conciseness, correctness and conversational), first impressions, body language and voice. Participants will learn successful presentation formats and strategies for effective public speaking.

Conflict and Building Collaboration Skills

Participants examine conflict-handling styles and approaches to developing skills in collaboration.
